Autumn Quotes (+ free printables)

Those of you who follow me on Twitter already know that I love Autumn.

If you know even a little about me, it’s not hard to see why I love Autumn so much. Staying inside, big cosy jumpers, blankets, hot drinks, the scent of distant bonfires… its my idea of introvert heaven.

Some people see Autumn quite differently and I understand why. Shorter days, longer nights, colder weather, the feeling of things coming to an end… I get it, I do.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (also known as SAD) can start to rear its ugly head around this time too. I’m not going to go into detail about SAD in this post, but if you’d like to find out more about what it is and how to get help, click here for more information.

But even if we don’t meet the diagnostic criteria for SAD, it is still quite common for the darker, colder months to have an effect on our mood and our motivation. For those who work outside of the home, leaving for work in the dark and coming home in the dark can take a toll. Some people may find it more difficult to socialise or get out and about for necessities.

There are lots of reasons why Autumn might feel quite dull and dreary, but for me, this is a season of liberation. As the trees shed their leaves, so too can we start to let go of the old and think about making room for the new. It’s less a time of loss and deprivation – more a sense of freedom and the chance for a fresh start.

Readers, you know I also love a good inspirational quote, so I thought I would share some quotes that, to me, perfectly encapsulate how I feel about the beauty of Autumn and the idea of breaking free from the things that weigh us down.

Please feel free to print these images for your personal use; whether you want to stick them in your journal or pin one to your mirror so you see it every morning, it’s up to you. They’re my gift to you.

Another fall, another turned page - Wallace Stegner

The trees are about to show us how lovely it is to let things go - Unknown

There is something so special in the early leaves drifting from the trees - as if we are all allowed a chance to peel, to refresh, to start again - Ruth Ahmed

Autumn is the mellower season and what we lose in flowers we more than gain in fruits - Samuel Butler

I can smell autumn dancing in the breeze. The sweet chill of pumpkin, and crisp sunburnt leaves - Ann Drake

Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall - F. Scott Fitzgerald

I hope these quotes inspire you as much as they inspire me; even (or maybe especially) if that inspiration leads you to the sofa with a fluffy blanket, a mug of tea, and a good book.

As we hunker down and get cosy, let’s say farewell to the things that have run their course or that no longer serve us, and start to think about what sort of adventures we would like the new year to bring.

How do you feel about Autumn? How would you benefit from letting something go? Let’s chat in the comments!
