CBD and Me: A Review

I gave CBD oil a go. Here’s what happened.

I was approached by Signature CBD and asked to review one of their CBD products. I received one bottle of their Multivitamin CBD oil free of charge. I was not compensated in any way for this review, with the exception of receiving the sample product for free. I will not receive any compensation from sales produced by this review.

CBD and Me: A Review (thepatchworkfox.com)

I’ve been interested in CBD oil for a while.

Initially, I dismissed it, because I didn’t really understand it and I assumed it would react badly with my prescription medication.

However, as time went on, I saw and heard more and more stories of people trying it out and experiencing a huge reduction in anxiety and better quality sleep.

So my interest was piqued.

I did some research and found that though the products were widely available, they were also quite expensive. I wasn’t confident about shelling out so much money on a product I wasn’t sure would work for me. So I put it off.

A few weeks ago, I was contacted by Signature CBD‘s lovely co-founder, Oli Summers, regarding reviewing one of their products on my blog. I was hesitant – fellow bloggers will be all too aware of the amount of scam review offers out there! However, I decided to look into the company, as I had been really struggling with my anxiety and sleep problems, and thought that if it was legit, I didn’t have anything to lose by giving it a go.

Fortunately, my research showed Signature CBD to be a legit company, so after some discussion back and forth with Oli, I agreed to a trial of one of their products. A bottle of Multivitamin oil drops arrived shortly after.

Seeking to tackle my rising anxiety levels and awful sleep issues, I started trialling the product straight away.

I read the information leaflet that came in the box and discovered that I could use the product 2-3 times per day. I decided that I would start off using the product once a day, right before bedtime, in an attempt to monitor its effects on my sleep.

I struggle with terrible sleep problems, particularly night terrors and sleep paralysis. The night terrors cause me to wake up multiple times a night, hence I wake up in the morning feeling extremely fatigued. I have no idea what it feels like to wake up feeling refreshed and well-rested.

The trial begins…

The first night that I tried CBD oil, I was a bit nervous about it because I’d never tried it before, but I was also optimistic about it.

Unfortunately, my first comment has to be that the oil tastes vile! Sorry, I can’t lie… I had to wash it down with some water!

When I first put the drops of oil under my tongue, I almost immediately felt my tongue go numb. This freaked me out, but after a quick Google search, I found that this is quite common and nothing to worry about.

I lay down in bed and fell asleep a little faster than usual.

When I woke up in the morning, I realised that I hadn’t woken up all night – I’d slept through. However, the fact that I had not had a broken night, meant that my night terrors had felt much longer than usual, and had been even more vivid. Although I’d been asleep throughout the night, I still felt exhausted because of the long-lasting night terrors.

I was disappointed but decided to continue on with the trial and see what happened.

The following few days resulted in much the same. Less broken sleep; longer, more vivid night terrors. After a week, I suspended the trial.

My thoughts…

I have mixed feelings about my experience with CBD oil. Of course, I am disappointed that it didn’t improve my quality of sleep. Nevertheless, I am not writing off any further use of CBD oil in the future.

I believe that my night terrors are linked to my mental health issues and trauma. No product is going to fix that. However, the CBD oil did have the effect of keeping me asleep, rather than waking up every hour or so like I normally do.

I have a long way to go with working through my mental health issues with mental health professionals, but I would be open to trying CBD oil again if my night terrors begin to subside, in order to reap the benefits of an unbroken night’s sleep.

If I do decide to try CBD oil again, I would go back to Signature CBD because the co-founders are knowledgable and dedicated to producing high-quality products.

Remember: this is just my experience.

If you’re interested in trying CBD oil, make sure you do your own research and discuss your plans with your GP.
