The Pieces of Me

Those of you who know me, or have read my About Me page, know that the name of this blog (The Patchwork Fox) does actually have a meaning to me.

The Fox part is obvious (being my name), but the patchwork part is more about how I see myself. I’ve spent a long time trying to define myself as a single entity under a single word. However, over the past year or so, I’ve come to realise that that is impossible.

I now see myself like a patchwork quilt. Lots of different coloured and patterned patches, stitched together to make up Me.

about me

The patches might not match, they might look a bit dishevelled, but at the end of the day, all the patches come together and make a perfectly acceptable quilt. Plus, my quilt can have new and different patches added to it over time. My potential has no expiration date.

I am a full and complete person, made up of lots of different things. No one single label can define me. And that’s okay.

How do you define yourself? What sort of things are on your “patches”? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I absolutely love your description of yourself and how you can add and take away at any time, changing your personal quilt as you change through life! I have always struggled greatly with my own identity and who I as a person really am, always comparing myself and my life to others to see if I match or fit in. You’ll have to forgive me, my brain is a little foggy this morning and not quite letting me use my verbal skills to communicate what I am thinking. Honestly I just want to say thank you for writing this post because now, maybe I can stop trying to define myself by just one thing, and realize that I cannot and should not try to, kind of like I should stop trying to fit myself into a box labeled with one word and made to stay trapped in that box and description. OMGosh I really hope this is making sense. Ok so all in all, Thank You, Sincerely, for giving me a little extra hope and “oomph” (what my mom use to call morning motivation to keep trying) this morning. I really needed that! So thank you, my dear! Truly!
