It’s the dreaded question.
“So, what do you do for fun?”
This is the moment you realise that you have literally *zero* hobbies.
It’s easy to get swept up in the never-ending cycle of work, eat, sleep, with the occasional lie-in at weekends (if you’re lucky). And it’s something we don’t even notice – we never take the time to do things we enjoy. What even do we enjoy? We don’t know anymore.
It’s time to find a new hobby. Something you enjoy, something that isn’t work-related, or chores-related, something you can honestly say is “just for fun”. Having a hobby or spending time doing things you enjoy is a crucial part of self-care.
Now comes the hard part. Actually deciding what to do.
When I got to this stage, I found myself absolutely incapable of thinking of a single hobby I wanted to pick up. So I decided to make a huge list of all the hobbies I could think of – whether I wanted to do them or not – and then once I’d finished that, I could look back and make a decision. I found that some of the things I’d listed that I would have immediately written-off before, I was actually a bit interested in trying out.
Now, to save you the hassle of writing out your own mega-list, I’ll give you mine. Read through the entire list. Every single hobby. Try not to make an immediate judgment about each one, just read the whole list. Once you’ve done that, go back to the start, and start crossing off the ones that you absolutely, definitely don’t want to do. Work your way through the list. Then go back to the start. Cross off the ones you’re not particularly bothered about. You see where I’m going with this. You should end up with a small selection of hobbies you’re either excited about, or at least willing to try.
